Here’s about AP Women’s Commission Chief Sailaja Demands Legal Awareness & End to Harassment
Having a keen desire to protect the rights and welfare of women, Chairperson of the Andhra Pradesh State Women’s Commission, Dr Rayapati Sailaja, is conducting a militant campaign throughout the Rayalaseema belt to enlighten girls and women on their legal rights and facilities.
Describing programs of awareness carried out at Nandyal and Kurnool, Dr Sailaja highlighted the necessity of legal literacy among women, especially in villages and colleges. She declared unequivocally that the Commission is not merely acting upon complaints but is choosing the route of preventive action with the hope of avoiding cases of harassment, abuse, and exploitation-especially among college-going girls and minor girls.
On-Ground Action with Shakti Teams and Internal Committees
The Commission has attempted its best at conducting field trips in an effort to listen to the grievance firsthand from the affected women and evaluate safety issues on the ground. One of their basic strategies is to engage 156 Shakti teams across the state, which is meant to move swiftly in the locations that have been categorised as being zones of risk or “hotspots.”
To further support the internal redressal mechanisms, 96 Internal Committees have also been formed in workplaces and schools to address and resolve cases of harassment. The committees are the first line of defense and give women the strength to report and seek help.
Support Systems that Make a Difference: Sakhi Centres
Dr Sailaja also spoke about the key role of Sakhi One-Stop Centre in Kurnool, which falls under the Women and Child Welfare Department. The centres, manned by women only, provide legal guidance, counseling, and transit shelter for distressed women. Their liaison with local women police stations facilitates easy and understanding action against abusers.
Conclusion: The entire effort undertaken by Dr Sailaja is a systemic realignment of movement and reflection from reactionary to proactive response, with emphasis on early intervention, safety audits, and ongoing legal education. In creating a culture of awareness and responsibility, the Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission is opening up the way to a safer, empowered future for women and girls in the state.
